Deepavali or Diwali is mainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festival. It is the festival of lights that’s marked by five days of celebration which literally illuminates entire country with its brilliance as well as dazzle all with its joy and happiness. This year Diwali falls on Sunday, 19 October 2017.The festival of Diwali is commemorated grandly by almost every communities across India. Diwali is one of the precious festivals in India, which is celebrated with much zeal and joy. It is part of a five-day Hindu observance also called as Festival of Lights. It brings a series of a festival with it. The celebration commences on Aswayuja Bahula Chaturdashi and it concludes on Kartika Shudha Vijaya . The first day of this feast is called Dhan Trayodashi or Dhanteras, wherein people worship the goddess, Lakshmi. The second day of Diwali is Narak Chaturdashi, which is popularly known as Chhoti Diwali.  The third day of the feast is known as Badi Diwali, which is the main day of celebration of the occasion, on this day people perform Lakshmi puja and offer prayers to her to bless them with prosperity and wealth. The fourth day is devoted to Govardhan Pooja and the fifth day is Bhai Dooj, is the best time to honor brother-sister relationship. Indian people celebrate this feast by bursting firecrackers, exchange of delicious sweets, gifts and greetings with their loved ones.

India is the great country of the world famously known as the land of festivals. Diwali is one of the most colorful, loveliest and sacred festivals of the Hindu religious people. Every year, it is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm throughout the length and breadth of India. The peaceful occasion of Diwali marks the happy return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile and his victory over the demon Ravan. The festival falls in the Hindu month of Kartik. Families prepare themselves for the special occasion, light up their houses and shops with diyas or decorative lamps, firecrackers are set off to drive away the evil things. Also, they exchange sweets, blessings, lavish gifts among each other, offer prayers and celebrate the festival with immense fervor and happiness.

One of the popular and most celebrated festivals is Diwali which falls every year 20 days after the occasion of Dussehra in the month of October/November. It is one of the most significant and joyous Hindu festival, which has several rituals, traditions, as well as cultural belief of celebrating it. During the festival season, people following Hinduism offer special prayers to their beloved deity. They worship Lord Ganesha for good welfare & prosperity and also worship goddess Lakshmi for wisdom and wealth. Diwali is specifically celebrated for five consecutive days in many parts of the country with much pomp and show.

  • Diwali is the most significant and famous festival of the India which is being celebrated every year all over the country as well as outside the country. People celebrate it very enthusiastically to commemorate the returning of Lord Rama to his kingdom, Ayodhya after a long period of time of 14 years of exile after defeating the Ravana.
  • On the returning day of Lord Rama, people of Ayodhya had illuminated their homes and pathways to welcome their Lord with the great enthusiasm. It is a sacred Hindu festival which symbolizes the triumph of goodness over badness. It is also celebrated by the Sikhs to commemorate the release of their 6th Guru, Sri Hargobind Ji, from the Gwalior jail by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir.

  • दीपावली का अर्थ है – दीपों की पंक्तियां। दीपावली के दिन प्रत्येक घर दीपों की पंक्तियों से शोभायमान रहता है। दीपों, मोमबत्तियों और बिजली की रोशनी से घर का कोना-कोना प्रकाशित हो उठता है। इसलिए दीपावली को रोशनी का पर्व भी कहा जाता है।दीपावली कार्तिक माह की अमावस को मनाई जाती है। रोशनी से अंधकार दूर हो जाता है। इसी तरह मन में अच्‍छे विचारों को प्रकाशित कर हम मन के अंधकार को दूर कर सकते हैं। यह त्योहार अपने साथ ढेरों खुशियां लेकर आता है। एक-दो हफ्ते पूर्व से ही लोग घर, आंगन, मोहल्ले और खलिहान को दुरुस्त करने लगते हैं। बाजार में रंग-रोगन और सफेदी के सामानों की खपत बढ़ जाती है। ठंडे मौसम की हल्की-सी आहट से तन-मन की शीतलता बढ़ जाती है।

    दीपावली का दिन आने पर घर में खुशी की लहर दौड़ जाती है। बाजार में मिट्‍टी के दीपों, खिलौनों, खील-बताशों और मिठाई की दुकानों पर भीड़ होती है। दुकानदार, व्यापारी अपने बहीखातों की पूजा करते हैं और कई इसी दिन नए ‍वित्तीय वर्ष की शुरुआत भी करते हैं।

    संध्या के समय घर-आंगन और बाजार जगमगा उठते हैं। पटाखों की गूंज और फुलझड़ियों के रंगीन प्रकाश से चारों ओर खुशी का वातावरण उपस्थित हो जाता है। घर-घर में पकवान बनाए जाते हैं। बच्चों की स्कूल की छुट्‍टियों से इस त्योहार का मजा दोगुना हो जाता है।रात्रि में पटाखे चलाए जाते हैं। लगभग पूरी रात पटाखों का शोरगुल बना रहता है। दीपावली की बधाइयों के आदान-प्रदान का सिलसिला चल पड़ता है।
